Dear Brothers, Sisters, and Kin:
Ohlone College will once again be offering TD 173: Intro to Moving Lights, taught in person on Monday evenings this fall semester.
This course introduces programming skills for the Hog 4 and Grand MA2 lighting consoles. Students will learn through virtual training in Ohlone’s lab and hands-on programming on the college’s Grand MA2 Lite control console. A Canvas component will also be available for supplemental work at home.
Class Schedule:
- Mondays, 6:30 PM – 9:30 PM
- First class: August 25, 2025
- Last class: December 8, 2025
- Location: Ohlone College, Fremont
Please note that this class is a prerequisite for TD 174: Intermediate Moving Lights with Brother Michael Starobin in January.
It is not unusual for students to miss a class or two due to work commitments; makeup opportunities and recorded sessions are available when arranged in advance.
Enrollment:
Students must apply to Ohlone College and then register for the course. Please encourage anyone interested to begin the application process as soon as possible, as it can take a few days to complete.
Flyer with details is attached.

If you have an interest in attending any in-person training, you should be introducing yourself to the basics of the subject on your own in advance of that training.
So much is available online. Do not waste time by having your trainers walk you through the basics of any new equipment when you could have done that yourselves.
Following is just a taste of what is available to familiarize oneself with first steps.
Some links are to paid programs, others are free. Most require registration in some form.
