Standard Tool Pack

Unless indicated otherwise on your call, the tools that will come in handy for a standard call are:

  • Multitool

  • Sharpie (black & silver)

  • Pen

  • Flashlight

  • 8” crescent wrench

  • Allen key set (metric & SAE)

  • Cable cutter

  • 25’ + tape measure or laser measure

  • Outlet tester

Cable Runs

  • All cable turns should be at 90 degree angles

  • All cable runs should have around 10 ft of slack at each end

  • When wrapping cables, don’t let any loose ends hang down -- make a shorter loop for the cable end instead so that both ends are at the top of the cable with the velcro wrap around them.

  • Reminder: XLR should be run with the female end at the audio source and the male end at output source

  • Reminder: DMX should be run with the male end at the lighting signal source (board, dimmer pack) and the female end at the light source

Tape Lines

  • Tape lines should be double width minimum

    • Exceptions: single XLR, CAT5, or phone line runs

  • When starting to tape cable runs, begin at one end of the run and proceed to the other. Don’t start in the middle. This is to make sure you have enough run at each end and also to make sure that you don’t end up with a whole bunch of extra cable in the middle of the run.

Audio

  • All mic kits are stored with a shorty XLR for each kit

Video

  • Always attach Kensington locks to projectors when set

  • All breakout projectors are stored with…

    • A D-Plug / Edison

    • Shorty VGA

    • Shorty HMDI

    • Kensington lock

Speakers

  • Encore uses JBL speakers. Unity on the gain knobs is at 3 o’clock.

  • Mic button

    • Hold to change

      • Line level, +4 dB (professional) = no light

      • Line level, -10 dB (consumer) = flashing light

      • Mic level = solid light

  • Coverage pattern is 90° x 50° = horizontal throw is 90° , vertical throw is 50°

  • Power = 1500W

  • Speaker stand bases should be set so that a 90° angle is formed between the main pole and the bars connecting it to the stand legs.

  • Store speakers with a D-Plug (aka IEC, or UPC) in the bag.

Labeling

  • Always label mixers, boards, and wireless mics

  • Always label all cable runs in large shows and general sessions. If in doubt, label.

Drape

  • There are two different sized drape panels: 16’ and 22’ high

    • 16’ high panels have no ties attached to the top of them

    • 22’ high panels have ties attached to the top of them

      • Before raising these to show height, make sure the tie strings are flipped over to the back side of the drape.

  • Set the baseline first, using the crossbars to measure out base placement and gauge the straightness of the line. Make sure it is set so that the drape will be centered and balanced for the set.

  • Before raising the drape, make sure to distribute the ruffles of the drape along the crossbar so that it is evenly bunched all the way across.

  • Always cap the uprights with drape.
